Pilchard hopes to convey her deep awe and respect for nature through her paintings, which she sees as meditations on the natural world. “I like to think of my work as a place where careful observations of nature and my inner vision meet,” she says. Through color and patterns she hopes to recapture a glimmer of recognition of a single moment. The challenge, she says, is to create an illusion of space using color and minimal detail. She accomplishes this by layering the paint in thin undercoats, resulting in the surface glowing with life. Pilchard graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Art in Boston with a BFA in 1995. She currently lives in Wellfleet.
